Application 1. Disilazane / disiloxane building block: A difunctional disilane-diamine for constructing Si–Si-bonded (disilane) backbones; aminolysis/condensation gives bis-silazane and disiloxane structures used in specialty silicone and polysilazane research.
2. Dual-ended silylating reagent: Silylates two substrate molecules / two surface sites per reagent molecule, useful for coupling and cross-linking applications requiring a short disilane spacer.
3. Si–Si functional material & precursor intermediate: Intermediate for Si–Si-bond-containing organosilicon compounds, disilane-based ligands and silicon-film/precursor research.

Frequently Asked Questions:

What is 1,2-bis(dimethylamino)tetramethyldisilane?

It is a disilane-diamine with the linear formula (CH₃)₂N–Si(CH₃)₂–Si(CH₃)₂–N(CH₃)₂ (CAS 26798-99-2, molecular formula C₈H₂₄N₂Si₂, MW 204.46). The molecule contains a silicon–silicon bond with one dimethylamino group and two methyl groups on each silicon — a difunctional aminosilane built on a disilane backbone.

Is this the same as CAS 26798-98-1?

No. CAS 26798-98-1 is N,N-dimethylaminopentamethyldisilane, Me₃Si–SiMe₂–NMe₂ (C₇H₂₁NSi₂, MW 175.42), which carries only one dimethylamino group. The 1,2-bis(dimethylamino) compound has dimethylamino groups on both silicon atoms and is CAS 26798-99-2. Confirm by CAS/structure when ordering; both compounds can be supplied.

What is this product mainly used for?

It is mainly used as a disilane-backbone building block for bis-silazane/disiloxane and Si–Si-bonded organosilicon structures, as a dual-ended silylating/coupling reagent (two reactive Si–N ends per molecule), and as an intermediate for Si–Si functional materials and silicon-precursor research.

Why use a disilane (Si–Si) diamine instead of a monosilane diaminosilane?

The Si–Si bond becomes part of the final product: polymers and derivatives built from this reagent contain a disilane segment, which changes backbone flexibility, electronic properties and thermal/conversion behavior versus ordinary siloxane (Si–O–Si) linkages. It is chosen when the target structure specifically requires adjacent silicon atoms — e.g., disilazane networks, Si–Si ligands or disilane-derived ceramic/precursor chemistry.

What purity do you supply?

Our standard grade is 95% min (by GC), with a COA for every batch. Higher-purity or tighter-spec batches (assay, moisture, trace metals) can be custom produced against your target specification.

What are the key physical properties?

Boiling point approximately 90–93 °C (literature range); density about 0.83 g/mL at 25 °C; refractive index around 1.42. It is a volatile, flammable, moisture-sensitive liquid; batch-specific measured values are reported on the COA, and full hazard data are in the SDS.

How should it be stored and handled?

Both Si–N bonds are moisture-sensitive and hydrolyze with water, liberating flammable, pungent dimethylamine; the Si–Si bond should also be kept away from oxidants. Store tightly sealed under dry nitrogen or argon in a cool, dry, dark place; transfer under inert atmosphere; use fume extraction and PPE. Full guidance is in the SDS.

What packaging options are available?

Standard packaging is fluoride bottles, fluorinated / iron / plastic drums or IBC tanks according to order quantity, sealed dry under inert conditions before dispatch. Small sealed sample bottles are available for evaluation; cylinders, ampoules or custom-fitted packaging can be arranged on request.

Are COA, SDS and DG documents provided? How is it shipped?

Yes — each batch ships with COA and SDS; TDS and regulatory documents are available on request. As a flammable, corrosive, water-reactive aminosilane, it is shipped through certified dangerous-goods channels by air, sea or courier, door to door, with complete DG documentation for customs clearance.

Can I get a sample, custom specification or small-batch supply?

Yes. We support gram-scale samples for evaluation, custom purity/specification batches, and scale-up to production volumes, including related disilane amines (e.g., the monoamino compound CAS 26798-98-1) and custom backbones. Application Cases:

Case 1 — Bis-Silazane / Disilazane Network Synthesis

A polysilazane R&D group uses the disilane diamine as a monomer for Si–Si-containing silazane networks. Controlled ammonolysis/condensation retains the Si–Si segment in the backbone, producing specialty polysilazanes with different pyrolysis behavior from standard siloxane-based systems.

Case 2 — Dual-Ended Surface Coupling on Oxide Substrates

A surface-chemistry lab applies the reagent to hydroxylated silica surfaces: both Si–N ends react with surface silanols, grafting short disilane bridges that anchor further functional layers — a route to Si–Si-bonded surface modifiers with high graft density.

Case 3 — Si–Si Ligand & Organosilicon Ligand Research

An organometallic research team uses the diamino disilane as a starting material for disilane-based ligands. Substitution of the dimethylamino groups with other nucleophiles yields functionalized Si–Si compounds for coordination chemistry and catalyst-ligand screening.

Case 4 — Specialty Disiloxane Segment in Silicone Chains

A silicone developer incorporates controlled amounts of the reagent to insert –SiMe₂–SiMe₂– segments into otherwise Si–O–Si silicone chains, tuning low-temperature flexibility and refractive properties of the resulting specialty elastomer.

Case 5 — Silicon Thin-Film Precursor Intermediate

A materials group evaluates the Si–Si-bonded diamine as an intermediate in disilane-type silicon precursor development. The amino groups offer convenient handle chemistry for further functionalization toward volatile, chlorine-free silicon-source candidates.
